Late Night Concert: Without borders
From 23:00h Post concert drinks and Meet & Greet with the musicians
20:30 - 21:30 - The Planets
World premier of a new arrangement for ensemble (2017) of Gustav Holst's The Planets (1914/1916) by Marijn van Prooijen & Gijs Kramer
Out of orbit! The Late Night Concert is invariably the highlight of the festival. This time you can witness a real world premier. A brand new arrangement of The Planets suite ñ the famous magnum opus of Gustav Holst ñ has arrived literally hot from the press on the music stands of the musicians. At request of artistic leader Eva Stegeman, Marijn van Prooijen and Gijs Kramers turned the symphonic work into a transparent chamber music work. The result will be a surprise for everyone!
Quotes of pioneering spirits connect Holstís planets. The Planets Suite culminates in an unforgettable experience: the first composed fade-out in music history; speaking about borderless! The way the music disappears and turns into silence takes away your breath like an astronaut at his first weightless tumble outside the atmosphere.
22:00 - 23:00h - United in diversity
After the interval you come back refreshed under the cosmic dome of the Nieuwe Kerk. Musicians turn up from everywhere and the proverbial glass wall between stage and the public disappears. The music pieces follow each other at high speed. Our musicians celebrate the diversity of colours. United in diversity - the motto of the EU -becomes for this moment a sounding reality.
Without borders and without a playlist the restraints are removed and you can relax and enjoy a wonderful evening. It is all about unity and diversity, about identity and solidarity, but above all it is a musical experience full of surprises, peculiarities that open up new horizons, and music that you may otherwise not listen to. (Afterwards you will get the play list!).
