High Tea Concert - La Mer

Frank Bridge - Phantasy for piano trio in c-minor H 79
Claude Debussy - La Mer
(arranged for piano trio by Sally Beamish in 2014, Dutch premiere)
Maurice Ravel - piano trio

Music lovers are unanimous in their opinion. No composer has devoted such wonderful music to the sea as Debussy. With La mer he has written a magical masterpiece for orchestra. You see the shades of colour changing in the water before your own eyes. You hear the foam hissing on the waves. You can smell the salty air. And you are literally blown over by the storm that rages in the final movement.

A miracle has happened. The English composer Sally Beamish has arranged Debussy’s rich orchestral score for piano trio. And almost nothing from the complexity of the piece has been lost. We proudly present the Dutch premiere of this new version.

Trio Apaches performs, an ensemble made up of three musicians who are active as soloists all over the globe.  They combine La mer with great piano trios from the same period: Frank Bridge’s Fantasy and Ravel’s Trio.
